… our continuing education seminars provide fundamental knowledge of topics related to life and culture in countries marked by Islam, ranging from introductory lectures to current debates. We organise open talks as well as customised seminars.

Lectures: “Introduction to the Koran” – “More than 1001 Arabian Nights” – “Women’s movements in the Arab-Islamic world” – There are many stereotypical views of issues related to life south of the Mediterranean. We provide background information, each semester offering a variety of introductory lectures on our areas of expertise in collaboration with Leipzig’s adult education centre.

In-service training for teachers: “Islamism and fundamentalism” – It is easy to get confused about what is presented by the media as the Islamist scene. In collaboration with the Saxon Educational Institute, our panellists investigated structures and phenomena related to political Islam and provided material and suggestions for the classroom.


Seminar: “Living together with - alongside - in opposition to Muslims" - Muslims living in Germany are gaining visibility in the public sphere. This day-long seminar provided background information on migration and Islam, encouraging participants to question and develop their own views. How can similarities and differences be managed in real life?


Training course for journalists: “Islam and integration” – Dealing with topics such as the aftermath of 9/11, the public debate on integration or the Middle East conflict requires a solid base of information. This introductory seminar for employees of the regional television station MDR was tailored to the needs of a journalist’s daily work.
